Future Talks Working With Drake, Kanye West, And Not Always Receiving Writing Credit on Ye’s songs | Download MP4 Video

Future is making sure that fans have all of the information they need as he prepares for the release of his upcoming album. The Atlanta rapper discussed his next project, past relationships, links with Drake and Ye, and more in a new GQ cover story.

Future, who was heavily involved in the production of Donda 2, opened up about his friendship with Kanye West, sharing some interesting facts about not always getting the writing credit.

Me and Kanye always had a relationship”, he told GQ. “But it’s hard for people to understand because I do not put everything on Instagram. Kanye flew me to Paris in 2011 or 2012 to work on music. [We discussed] his clothing line before it came, his shoe business before it came. People do not know I have been able to go to his house and pull up right into the crib. We just never talked about it.”

During the interview, Future was asked what he thought of Kanye West calling him “the most influential artist of the past ten years.” This is when the 38-year-old rapper revealed that there are some of Ye’s songs out there that he wrote on but didn’t get credit for.

“When he said that, I understood why he called me to Paris,” he said. “Even though I did not understand it at that time. I understood why we had certain conversations. I understood him being a part of ‘I Won.’ Even him having me write on certain albums that people do not even understand I wrote on.”

The executive producer of the Donda sequel went on to say that creating songs with Ye isn’t about getting recognition, but about enjoying what you do.

“Sometimes not getting credit when you write with [Kanye] because the love of the art is…I want it to be right. Top tier. Just being able to create and put those textures over different music, and being involved with something like that. And then later down the line in a priceless moment, him saying what he said on Drink Champs. The value of that statement. The value of the relationship as it continues to grow, the value of just treating people like they are priceless, instead of treating people like they got a dollar sign on them every time,” said Future.

The Mask Off rapper also praised one of his other colleagues, Drake. Their most notable feature was 2015’s ‘What a Time to Be Alive’, a spontaneous collaboration mixtape that was created during a six-day studio session.

“Anytime we work in the studio, the level, the energy, we are trying to perfect this sh*t but still stay raw, still stay gritty, and still be moving at the speed of the universe… It is something that you have to work at, but it is something that you have to find too,” this is how Future described working with Drizzy.
He continued: “We made the most out of it. You are in a place where your self-esteem and ego allow a person to be in your space. And not be afraid to be like: ‘I want to align and build with this…. You are never weak when you understand another man’s strengths.”
